Maytenus macrocarpa (chuchuhuasi) is a plant native to the Amazon Region of Peru. It belongs to the legacy of ancient Amazonian medicine, it has properties such as: body tonic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, immunostimulant, relieves menstrual pain, strengthens bones and joints; sterols and triterpenes. Its bark is used for maceration in liquor and applied in treatments for rheumatism, influenza, gastrointestinal diseases and as an antitumor agent.

Despite the few studies that currently exist, data has been found on its benefits for treating respiratory (80.00%) and osteotendinous problems.

The diseases for which this species is used include colds, bronchitis, rheumatological conditions, low back pain, diarrheal diseases, parasitic infections, hemorrhoids, fissures in the nipples, also in the treatment of female sterility and as an aphrodisiac.

Maytenus macrocarpa (chuchuhuasi) contains alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, sterols and triterpenes. It has been described that triterpenes confer antimutagenic, antibacterial, and antileishmanial effects; Its bradycardic effect and reduction of P wave voltage in the electrocardiogram have also been demonstrated.

The bark of the plant has among its active ingredients: alkaloids, flavonoids, quinones, coumarins, phenols, saponins, tannins and organic acids. Thanks to the action of these active ingredients, Chuchuhuasi is recognized for its energizing and toning properties.

Internal use:

5 to 15 drops, 3 times a day, preferably in a hot drink to evaporate the alcohol. The most important indication for its use is respiratory problems and its anti-inflammatory property stands out.
